Progress to Excellence turns landmark blue to support World Autism Week
Progress to Excellence is turning a landmark corner of Birkenhead blue to show support for World Autism Week.
As part of its year-long initiative to raise awareness of autism, the company is joining the global Light It Up Blue campaign to help increase understanding and acceptance of people on the autism spectrum.
Its headquarters at the iconic Pacific Road in Birkenhead will be lit blue as hundreds of other communities light up to help change attitudes towards the condition that touches the lives of more than half-a-million people in the UK alone.
Across the world, other iconic buildings which will be lit blue include the Empire State Building in New York, Niagara Falls and the Emirates Spinnaker Tower.
Progress to Excellence has chosen Wirral’s Autism Together as its charity for 2017 and the two organisations are now working closely together on a programme of fundraising, volunteering and awareness-raising of the condition.
Damian Burdin, chief executive at Progress to Excellence Ltd, said: “As usual, all our staff are throwing themselves wholeheartedly into a year of innovative fundraising and volunteering for Autism Together.
“However, there is a more serious side to their efforts too – that of raising awareness in the community to a condition where some people on the autistic spectrum can be misjudged. We all share the same ethos, one of maximising potential irrespective of circumstances, and hope our achievements will help to make to a huge difference to individuals and their families.
“This is why we are joining the Light It Up Blue campaign. We’ll be lighting up our headquarters just like other organisations, businesses and communities are doing across the globe in the hope we can draw attention to the need for greater understanding of autism.”
World Autism Week runs from March 27 to April 2. During the week, the teams from Progress to Excellence staff will be receiving autism awareness training by staff from Autism Together as well as joining in at the charity’s 60s Music Night and wearing blue on Friday, March 31.
Bistro No.4, the Progress to Excellence bistro at Pacific Road Business Hub, will also be serving a selection of blue-themed food.
