Importance of customer care earns Gerard a top retail award
Going the extra mile and looking after the customer – no matter what their needs – has earned Gerard Heath a top retail award sponsored by Progress to Excellence.
Gerard, 37, who is assistant manager at Hugo Boss in Liverpool One, received the Customer Service Award at the first Liverpool Retail Awards, held to recognise the major contribution the city centre’s shops make to the economic and social life of the region.
After accepting his award from Steven Gabriel, national training manager at Progress to Excellence Ltd, at a ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral, he said: “Retail is a dynamic industry, particularly in a place like Liverpool where both men and women are incredibly conscious of how they look and are prepared to spend a lot of money on clothes.
“It’s therefore important that customer care is at the centre of everything we do in store and that we go the extra mile to make sure everyone who walks through our door gets the best attention.
“But it’s not about how much the customer is planning to spend – it’s about giving the same excellent service to everyone whether they’re buying an expensive suit or a pair of trainers.”
Partnering with event organisers to sponsor the Customer Service Award has given Progress to Excellence the opportunity to applaud retail staff like Gerard who every day go above and beyond in their roles to exceed customer expectations.

Retail Skills Level 2 is aimed at learners who are currently working within the retail sector and who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding. A Retail Knowledge Apprenticeship Level 2 is perfect for staff in roles such as retail assistants, counter assistants, stockroom/warehouse assistants, visual merchandisers and cash point operators. A Retail Skills (Management) Apprenticeship at Level 3 is ideal for staff in a managerial position.
