Ideal for those who are new to the health and social care industry or who are looking to gain the skills needed to aid career development.

The adult care worker apprenticeship is an integrated programme of knowledge and skills acquisition, developed alongside core behaviours expected of a competent worker operating in a regulated field. The award of the apprenticeship certificate will signify a recognition of competence in a role and enable progression to higher levels of skills development.

This course accredits learners’ abilities to understand and carry out a range of tasks and responsibilities and has been designed to accredit their achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the work context and aids career progression.

Course duration and attendance

This apprenticeship is delivered within the workplace and will take between 12-16 months to complete. Over the length of your course, you will receive monthly face to face visits from your assessor at your workplace. You will also receive support via telephone, email and Skype (through our e-portfolio system, OneFile). What you will study

  • Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care
  • The Care Certificate (certified by your employer)
  • Achieve Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths and sit Level 2 functional skills assessments
  • A self-evaluation in the last month of your apprenticeship to enable you to see whether you are confident that you have taken on board all aspects of the occupation. This self-evaluation will be used to identify the apprentices EPA readiness, the outcome of which must be agreed between the apprentice, tutor and employer. IF all parties agree that the apprentice is EPA ready, the EPA will be arranged with an independent assessment organisation.Your diploma will be awarded by Skillsfirst. Months 1-3: Induction period

Months 4-12: ‘On the job’ & ‘Off-the-job’ learning and Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Months 13-14: End Point Assessment

Functional Skills

This is a mandatory part of the course unless you already hold relevant Functional Skills/Key Skills qualifications or GCSE English and maths. Certificates must be provided for exemption from this part of the course.
You will be asked to complete an initial assessment at induction to help us support you with this. You will then be ass igned an assessor in this area to fully support you throughout this part of your course. You will be required to sit short examinations to complete Functional Skills. You will be required to sit Functional skills assessments at Level 2 prior to moving to EPA.

Course costs

The cost of this course is £3,000 for levy paying employers, or £150 for co-investment employers.
