Dental Nursing Level 3

This qualification is for trainee dental nurses working chair-side in an oral healthcare setting

This qualification enables learners to become fully competent in dental nursing by giving them the knowledge and skills, both, in direct chairside work and for providing support in a range of dental treatments. This qualification is for trainee dental nurses working chairside in an oral healthcare setting and is appropriate for learners aged 16 and over. Learners should work a minimum of 3 days per week in the surgery to fulfil the requirements of this qualification. The course is designed to be more flexible than other routes on offer as sessions take place within the workplace and there is less disruption to the dental practice due to minimal day release.

Who can do this course?

This apprenticeship is suitable for professionals just starting out in the dental sector and who would like to qualify as a Dental Nurse.

Course duration and attendance

This apprenticeship will take between 18-22 months to complete. Over the length of your course, you will receive face to face visits from your assessor at your workplace. There will also be some self-study elements, however, your tutor will offer advice and guidance around this.

What you will study

Mandatory units include:

  • Dental Nursing Standard
  • Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths
  • A self-evaluation in the last month of your apprenticeship to enable you to see whether you are confident that you have taken on board all aspects of the occupation. This self-evaluation will be used to identify the apprentices EPA readiness, the outcome of which must be agreed between the apprentice, tutor and employer. If all parties agree that the apprentice is EPA ready, the EPA will be arranged with an independent assessment organisation.Your diploma will be awarded by City & Guilds. Functional Skills

This is a mandatory part of the course unless you already hold relevant Functional Skills/Key Skills qualifications or GCSE English and maths.
Certificates must be provided for exemption from this part of the course. You will be asked to complete an initial assessment at induction to help us support you with this. You will then be assigned an assessor in this area to fully support you throughout this part of your course. You will be required to sit short examinations to complete Functional Skills.

Course costs

The cost of this course is £6,000 for levy paying employers, or £300 for co-investment employers. This apprenticeship is also offered as a standalone diploma on a commercial basis, and can also be funded via a student funded loan.
