This qualification has been created for roles such as managers of residential services, assistant managers of residential services, Senior Care Workers or Day Service Managers

This qualification aims to guide and assess development of knowledge, understanding and skills in management and advanced practice within health and social care and children and young people’s services. This qualification confirms competence in these areas and serves as the required qualifications for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector in England.

Who can do this course?

This course is suitable for those in a management role within a health and social care setting.

Course duration and attendance

This apprenticeship will take 24 months to complete. Over the length of your course, you will receive face to face visits from your assessor at your workplace. You will also receive contact via telephone, email and Skype (through our e-portfolio system, OneFile). To learn more about our e-portfolio system, visit www.onefile.co.uk. There will also be some self-study elements, however, your tutor will offer advice and guidance around this.

What you will study

Mandatory units include:

  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Develop Health and Safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settingsPathway specific mandatory units are in addition to these. There are a wide range of optional units for this course which you can view on the Skillsfirst website at www.skillsfirst.co.uk.

Functional Skills

This is a mandatory part of the course unless you already hold relevant Functional Skills/Key Skills qualifications or GCSE English and maths. Certificates must be provided for exemption from this part of the course.
You will be asked to complete an initial assessment at induction to help us support you with this. You will then be assigned an assessor in this area to fully support you throughout this part of your course.
You will be required to sit short examinations to complete Functional Skills. Commercial courses are exempt from Functional Skills
