Julie’s charity fundraiser brings in a sweet £700 for Macmillan Cancer
ANOTHER day of sweet success for Progress to Excellence Ltd as the training provider raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Julie, Learner Engagement Officer at the company’s headquarters at Pacific Road Business Hub, Birkenhead, baked cakes – recruiting friends and colleagues to help with the task – and organised a raffle for the charity’s annual national coffee morning, raising a total of £700.
The event itself, supported by other companies based at Pacific Road, brought in £350 and was match-funded by Sandra Kirkham, Managing Director of Progress to Excellence Group.
Raffle prizes were kindly donated by Progress to Excellence staff and friends, as well as other local businesses and organisations, including Owen Drew Candles, The Wirral Gin Company and Joelle Body Time. Megan Kong, Macmillan’s Regional Corporate Fundraising Manager joined Julie and the team to support the morning.
In recent years Julie has raised other large sums for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity particularly close to her heart as she has had breast cancer twice and her sister Sue died at the age of 53 of the same disease.
She said: “Getting ready for the day is always hard work. But it’s all for a good cause, one which is very close to my heart.”
Damin Burdin, Chief Executive at Progress to Excellence Ltd, added: “Julie’s fundraising is legendary as are the cakes she bakes for these fundraising events.
“Helping causes such as Macmillan Cancer Support are part of the company’s ethos and I am immensely proud of what Julie and the rest of the staff here do to support them.”
